Turkish citizenship

* A foreign citizen may apply for naturalization if he fulfills all of the following conditions:

He has reached the age of majority according to the definition of his country’s laws or the laws of Turkey in the case of stateless persons.
He resides in Turkey for 5 years without interruption before submitting the application.
He intends to settle in Turkey and has taken measures to prove this.
Free from any disease threatening public health.
Be of good character.
He has the ability to speak the Turkish language.
He has sufficient income for his livelihood in Turkey.
It does not pose a threat to national security and public order.
Meeting these conditions does not give the foreigner the absolute right to Turkish citizenship.

* A foreign citizen who has been married to a Turkish citizen for three years and is still married to that partner may apply for naturalization under various conditions:

He lives with a Turkish partner.
He avoids actions that could threaten the marriage.
It does not pose a threat to national security and public order.

After the successful application, the naturalized partner may preserve his Turkish nationality in the event of dissolution of the marriage as long as the two partners concluded the marriage contract in good faith.

Citizenship by investment

Since the publication of the additional materials on Law No. 5901 on January 12, 2017, foreign citizens investing in Turkey will be granted the right to apply for Turkish citizenship.

A foreign citizen who makes one of the following investments or fulfills one of the conditions may apply for Turkish citizenship:

A minimum investment of $ 400,000 USD will not be sold for at least 3 years.
An investment in a Turkish company of no less than $ 2,000,000.
Deposit of 500,000 USD in a Turkish bank is not withdrawn for 3 years.
Make an investment in government bonds with a value of at least $ 500,000 that may not be sold for at least 3 years.
Employing 100 Turkish workers in a company owned by a foreign citizen.

Fulfilling one of the above conditions will suffice to gain the right to apply for Turkish citizenship.
